Portrait of Frances Eugene of Savoy - Carignan, the young Count of Soissons. Oil on canvas, anonymous work. Historical information about this personage: Eugene of Savoy fought in 1683 against the Turks beneath the walls of a Vienna under siege, contributing to the victory of the Imperial Army led by John Sobieski, King of Poland, and Charles V, Duke of Lorraine. He later won other victories against the Turks as the leader of these military campaigns. In 1697 in Zenta he obliged the Turks to sign the Treaty of Carlowitz. In 1716 in Petrovaradin and in 1717 in Belgrade he forced them to endorse the Treaty of Passorowitz. As well as a skillful strategist, he was a cultured enthusiast of literature and the sciences which he cultivated and protected. His military campaigns were studied and described in an important work of 21 volumes edited by the General Austro-Hungarian Staff.

Nel 1716 a Petervaradino e nel 1717 a Belgrado costringendoli alla pace di Passorowitz. Oltreché valente stratega, fu un uomo colto, amante delle lettere e delle science che coltivò e professò. Le sue campagne militari furono studiate e descritte in una importante opera di 21 volumi edita dallo Stato Maggiore Austro - Ungarico.
Pair of antique and rare Baltic armchairs in mahogany decorated with pearls. The arm supports rest on two wooden sculptures superbly modeled after sphinxes. They are attributed to the Russian area and datable to the Neoclassical period.
